Cliff Patterson is a figure skating coach, director, & artist/ choreographer with 26 years experience in figure skating, 19 in dance, & 15 years as a professional. Cliff was born in St Petersburg, Florida and moved to Colorado in 2005. He holds the BFA in dance from CU Boulder, is an AmeriCorps alum, and is pursuing the MA in Curriculum & Instruction. Cliff is also CPR/ 1st Aid Certified. Before coming to Boulder, Cliff coached successful competitive teams of developing youth skaters in Wyoming, Missouri, Kansas, & Western Colorado. He has worked with all ages & abilities from basic skills to the senior freestyle test. He specializes in freestyle technique, off-ice training/ conditioning, and choreography/ style.
Cliff is the driving force behind C3, which he founded to provide year round figure skating opportunity in Boulder. In addition to administrative duties, he is busy building a competitive team for the 2012-13 season. He coaches group, private, & semi-private lessons. Cliff's coach training began in 1997 and includes mentorship under Master coaches & International judges. He has attended numerous coaching & educators conferences, workshops, courses, and seminars - through Professional Skaters' Association, U.S. Figure Skating, Ice Skating Institute, International Skating Union, and others.
Cliff started singles skating at age 5 and devoted his childhood to training under figure skating masters - including European Champion Herbert Weisinger, Gold Ice Dancer Katrina Fortney, & Pairs Champion Bruce Forcia. He did special study & early release through private school and homeschool programs for 9 years in order to spend more time training. Cliff competed in both USFSA & ISIA local, state, & regional competitions for 8 years and won many events including the ISIA Nationals in 1993.
Cliff has worked as a figure skating and dance coach sine 1998. His choreographic work has been seen in 14 states and includes Olympic skaters & National Champions. Cliff has directed over a dozen ice shows & numerous dance events - sometimes intimate, sometimes large scale. He's also created numerous dances in context of contemporary issues, and his award-winning choreography and films have been seen on television and featured online.
